New state data released today shows Los Angeles County has hit the final yellow tier marker - the most lenient category of the COVID-19 reopening system. The county’s case rate dropped to 1.9 new cases per day per 100k people. The county will have to maintain its numbers next week to advance.
LA County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer says:
“It’s so encouraging to see the work we’re doing together having such a profound effect on the health and well-being of people all across our communities.”
It was only about 6 weeks ago when LA County first moved out of the most restrictive purple tier. In the yellow tier, most businesses can operate indoors with some modifications. Officials say recent progress will continue only if more people get vaccinated and continue to adhere to health protocols that keep the virus from spreading.
