Sheriff's Deputies Exchange Gunfire with Assault Suspect Following Pursuit

LOMITA (CNS) - Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies exchanged shots with an assault suspect following a pursuit that ended in the Lomita area today, but no one was injured.

The suspect opened fire on deputies at some point after the pursuit ended and the deputies returned fire, CBS2 reported.

It was not immediately clear how or where the pursuit began, but it ended at about 3:30 p.m. in the 26600 block of Western Avenue, on the border of Lomita and Los Angeles, near Palos Verdes Drive, according to Deputy Grace Medrano of the Sheriff's Information Bureau.

Neither the suspects nor deputies were injured in the shooting, Medrano said. Sheriff's Internal Affairs Bureau detectives were investigating the shooting.
