LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The 29-year-old driver of a 2009 Nissan was killed when he was thrown from an overturned vehicle on Big Pines Highway near the unincorporated Valyermo area of Los Angeles County, authorities said this morning.
The crash occurred about 7:35 p.m. Monday west of Largo Vista Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A preliminary investigation determined the driver made an unsafe turn that caused the vehicle to drift onto the right shoulder and then veer left across the eastbound lane, where the vehicle went through a barbed-wire fence and overturned down an embankment, the CHP said.
The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and a passenger in the vehicle sustained minor injuries and was airlifted to a hospital, the CHP said.
It was unclear if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
The name of the driver was not disclosed.
