Homeless Man Shot to Death Near Encampment in Long Beach

LONG BEACH (CNS) - Police today sought public help to solve the shooting death of a homeless man at an encampment in Long Beach.

Officers were sent to the area near the interchange of the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway and the northbound Long Beach (710) Freeway about 2:30 p.m. Monday, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

They summoned paramedics, who pronounced the wounded man dead at the scene, police said. Information on his identity was not immediately available.

“Detectives believe the victim, who resided at the encampment, was shot multiple times in the upper torso by an unknown suspect who fled the scene prior to the officers' arrival,'' according to a police statement. “No weapons were located at the scene, and the motive for the shooting remains under investigation.''

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call homicide detectives at 562-570-7244, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
