Man Who Walked Out of Rehabilitation Facility Captured in San Gabriel

SAN GABRIEL (CNS) - A man convicted of grand theft who left a rehabilitation facility without authorization two months ago was taken into custody in San Gabriel today.

Richard Ledesma walked away from a Male Community Reentry Program facility in Los Angeles on Feb. 12, according to a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation official.

Ledesma was taken into custody without incident Wednesday afternoon at about 2:45 p.m, authorities said. He will be brought to the California Institution for Men in Chino and his case will be referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for consideration of escape charges.

Ledesma entered prison on March 16, 2020, to serve a 32-month sentence, authorities said. He arrived at the reentry program facility on Nov. 30, 2020, and was scheduled for release in November 2021.

The Male Community Reentry Program is a voluntary program for male offenders who have about one year left of their sentence to serve. It allows eligible state prison inmates to serve the end of their sentences in a reentry center that provides community-based rehabilitative services.
