Reckless Driver Evades Police After Pursuit Through Hollywood Streets

BALDWIN PARK (CNS) - A reckless driver evaded California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles Police Department units today after leading them on a pursuit through Baldwin Park and Hollywood.

CHP units attempted to stop the driver of a blue Honda sedan about 12:30 p.m. on the Santa Monica (10) Freeway in the Baldwin Park area for driving solo in the carpool lane and crossing the double-yellow line, a CHP spokesperson said. The driver failed to stop, and CHP units engaged the car in a pursuit.

The driver traveled westbound on the 10 Freeway before transitioning to the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway. CHP units attempted a PIT maneuver on the car, but the driver was able to regain control and continued on.

The driver eventually exited the freeway onto surface streets in the Hollywood area, including Santa Monica Boulevard and La Brea Avenue. The CHP handed the chase off to the LAPD, who ultimately decided to terminate the pursuit, said Officer Tony Im of the LAPD Media Relations Division.

The LAPD will file report of the crime using the car's license plate number, Im said.

KTLA5 said the car had not been reported as stolen, meaning authorities would be able to identify and locate the owner.
