HOLLYWOOD (CNS) - “Coming 2 America'' was the most-streamed program for the second consecutive week, with viewers watching 770 million minutes in its first full week of release, according to figures released today by Nielsen.
Viewership dropped 45.5% from the 1.413 billion minutes watched in the first three days of release of the sequel to the 1988 “Coming to America,'' both starring Eddie Murphy.
“Coming 2 America'' was the first program or film streaming on Amazon Prime Video to top a weekly streaming Top 10 list, which are customarily dominated by Netflix.
Nielsen issued its first report on viewership of Netflix, Disney+,Hulu and Amazon Prime Video programming last Sept. 5, covering the week of Aug. 3-9.
“Coming 2 America'' was the only non-Netflix program to make the Top 10 for the week of March 8-14.
“Ginny & Georgia'' was second for the second consecutive week, with viewers watching 722 million minutes of the 10-episode Netflix dramedy, down 37.8% from the 1.161 billion minutes watched the previous week -- its first full week for release.
“Ginny & Georgia'' finished first the week of Feb. 22-28 when viewers watched 953 million minutes in its first five days of release.
There were no first-time members of the Top 10.
“The Crown'' returned to the Top 10 for the first time since the week of Dec. 28-Jan. 3 with viewers watching 449 million minutes of the 40-episode Netflix drama about the life and reign of Queen Elizabeth II, tying the NBC crime comedy-drama “Good Girls'' for sixth.
Viewership was up 85.5% from the 242 million minutes watched the previous week, likely because of increased interest in the British royal family from Oprah Winfrey's interview of Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, which aired on CBS March 7.
Dropping out of the Top 10 were the Disney+ blend of classic television and the Marvel Cinematic Universe “WandaVision'' and Netflix's three-part documentary series on a trio of bombings in 1985 in Salt Lake City, “Murder Among the Mormons.''
The previous week's Top 10 included a tie for 10th between the Canadian family drama “Heartland'' and “CoComelon,'' Netflix's six-episode 3D animated series of videos of traditional nursery rhymes and original children's songs.
The top 10 consisted of six programs that originally aired on U.S. or Canadian broadcast or cable channels, three original streaming programs and one movie.
The Top 10 programs were “Coming 2 America''; “Ginny & Georgia''; “Criminal Minds''; “Grey's Anatomy''; “CoCoMelon'' “The Crown'' and “Good Girls'' tying for sixth; “NCIS''; “Schitt's Creek''; and “Heartland.''
