Long Beach Employee Jailed in Connection with Decade-Old Sexual Assault

LONG BEACH (CNS) - A Long Beach city employee suspected of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl 10 years ago was jailed today.

Paul Skelly, 35, was arrested Thursday after Long Beach Police Department officers responded to a report of sexual abuse against a child that occurred in the area of Carson Street and Orange Avenue approximately 10 years ago, police said.

The victim came forward with information of the alleged assault and reported it to police on Jan. 10.

Skelly is a family acquaintance of the victim and a 13-year city government employee who was assigned to the Department of Financial Management. Police arrested him at his workplace at 2600 N. Temple Ave. at 3:45 p.m.

Skelly will be suspended without pay pending the outcome of the investigation, police said.

Skelly is being held on $100,000 bail, according to jail records. There was no available court information.

Investigators said they believe there may be additional victims who were acquainted with Skelly.
