LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose today for the 35th consecutive day and 55th time in 56 days, increasing nine-tenths of a cent to $3.904, its highest amount since Nov. 23, 2019.
The average price has increased 55.6 cents in the past 56 days, including a half-cent on Monday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is eight cents more than one week ago, 35.1 cents higher than one month ago and 48.3 cents greater than one year ago.
The Orange County average price rose for the 36th consecutive day and 69th time in 70 days, increasing 1.1 cents to $3.893, its highest amount since Nov. 21, 2019.
It has increased 66.9 cents in the past 70 days, including a half-cent on Monday. It is 7.6 cents more than one week ago, 35.2 cents higher than one month ago and 53.1 cents greater than one year ago.
Prices are rising because refinery utilization is at a record low -- tightening gas supplies. They're also up because the more expensive summer-blend fuel is in the marketplace; because of a modest increase in demand as people drive more; and because of higher crude oil prices stemming from the dollar's drop in value relative to other currencies, according to Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager.
