Burbank Firefighters Extinguish 3-Alarm Blaze in Abandoned Storage Building

BURBANK (CNS) - Firefighters today extinguished a three-alarm fire in an abandoned cold storage building in Burbank, and no one was hurt.

The fire was reported around 2:30 a.m. in the abandoned, two-story America Cold Building at 10 W. Magnolia Blvd., according to Burbank Fire Department Battalion Chief Mark Hatch.

Burbank police officers on the Magnolia Boulevard overpass above the building saw the flames on the roof and reported the fire, according to police Sgt. G. Mirakyan. The overpass crosses over the Golden State (5) Freeway and railroad tracks, Hatch said.

The fire was in the roof and attic at first, and firefighters first tried to battle the flames from inside the building and on the roof, Hatch said. But when the fire got too large, they began a defensive fight, pouring water on the burning building from outside, Hatch said.

By about 6:30 a.m., the fire had been extinguished, but some firefighters remained on scene dousing hot spots. A section of Magnolia Boulevard was closed in the area as a precaution, Hatch said. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
