Slow-Speed Chase of Suspected Stolen Truck Ends with Driver in Custody

WEST LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The driver of a suspected stolen truck who led Los Angeles police on a slow-speed pursuit in West Los Angeles was in custody this morning after stopping the truck, then running from officers who captured him about a half-block from the termination of the chase.

The driver traveled along city streets and at one point drove over a sidewalk on Santa Monica Boulevard and into a neighborhood.

About 5 a.m. the driver stopped the truck near Manning and Tennessee avenues and remained inside for a few minutes.

A news photographer at the scene said officers used non-lethal ammunition to break out windows of the truck.

The suspect exited the truck and briefly appeared to comply with the commands of officers, then bolted into the neighborhood, running for about half a block before being chased down by officers.

It was unclear where the pursuit began.
