Pomona Man, 60, Arrested for Gun, Drug Violations

POMONA (CNS) - A 60-year-old man was in custody this morning after police in Pomona stopped him for undisclosed traffic violations and a subsequent search of his vehicle turned up a loaded weapon and drugs.

Officers stopped the man's vehicle about 7 p.m. Thursday in the area of Towne Avenue and Phillips Boulevard after they observed the driver make two moving violations, according to Sgt. M. Medellin of the Pomona Police Department's Major Crimes Task Force.

The driver, identified as Jose Jara of Pomona, consented to a search of his vehicle by officers, who found a loaded gun and ammunition concealed inside a protein powder container. Officers then searched Jara and found a package containing suspected methamphetamine, Medellin said.

Jara was taken into custody without incident.
