Gov. Gavin Newsom is in defense mode as the recall begins to take shape. This week he has made daily appearances throughout the state hoping to change the views of the voters. Residents are tired of the stringent business restrictions and school closures. Newsom has yet to use the word “recall” – but it’s clear he knows what he’s up against when it comes to keeping his job.
During the past several days Newsom has made some changes with his public schedule. He’s holding news conferences touting mass vaccination clinics. No longer is he restricting his conferences to just a pool reporter taking questions through a virtual news conference; but he is now opening access to all media in person.
Even President Joe Biden has weighed in on the recall. White House press secretary Jen Psaki said on Twitter:
"@POTUS clearly opposes any effort to recall @GavinNewsom."
