Three Critically Injured In Fire In Santa Clarita

SANTA CLARITA (CNS) - Three people are hospitalized this morning with critical burns and other injuries sustained in a fire in Santa Clarita.

Authorities were called about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday to the 25100 block of Rye Canyon Loop, off Kelly Johnson Parkway, to the report of an explosion on a movie set, said Ed Pickett, supervising dispatcher with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

KCAL9 reported the explosion occurred due to a malfunction involving pyrotechnics. Video footage from the area showed large shipping containers with apparent fire damage.

The three people found burned were taken to a trauma center, Pickett said.

A brush fire that broke out after the explosion was held to about one acre before being knocked down by firefighters, Pickett said.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
