SOUTH SAN GABRIEL (CNS) - A suspect accused in the fatal shooting of a man found outside a strip mall in the unincorporated South San Gabriel area was arrested and charged with murder, authorities said today.
Filipe Sanchez, 30, was taken into custody Monday during a traffic stop, after authorities spotted the 2008 Nissan Pathfinder he allegedly used in the Baldwin Park parking lot shooting, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.
Sanchez and a 32-year-old woman driving the vehicle were arrested “without incident,'' the department said. The woman was later released.
Sanchez is accused of killing 36-year-old Ramon Gomez, who was found unresponsive about 7:30 p.m. Jan. 18 in the strip mall parking lot in the 8100 block of Arroyo Drive, the department said. Gomez was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not said whether Gomez and Sanchez knew each other.
A murder charge was filed on Wednesday against Sanchez in Pasadena Superior Court, according to the sheriff's department.
He remains held on $3.05 million bail, LASD said.
