POMONA (CNS) - Citations were issued to 18 drivers and seven vehicles were towed from a DUI checkpoint in Pomona, authorities said this morning.

The checkpoint operation began at 9 p.m. Friday and was located at San Antonio Avenue and Mission Boulevard, according to the Pomona Police Department.

A total of 18 drivers were cited for driving without a license or driving with a suspended or revoked license and seven vehicles were towed, the department said.

Checkpoints are placed in areas based on crash statistics and frequency of DUI arrests, the department said, adding there were 127 DUI crashes that injured 49 people in 2018.

Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with DUI can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to be approximately $13,500, including fines, fees, DUI classes, license suspension and other expenses not to mention possible jail time, police said.
