Husband Jailed for Sending Dead Rat, Threatening Texts to Ex-Wife

An Indiana man is going behind bars for threatening his ex-wife over the course of several years.

Fifty-seven year-old Romney Christopher Ellis was sentenced to four years and ten months in federal prison for making interstate threats and mailing injurious articles including a dead rat and a black rose to her home in Florida.

A criminal complaint details four years of harassment against his ex-wife. A search warrant of Ellis’s Indianapolis home last year led postal inspectors to a discovery of a handwritten note with the names and addresses of the victim, and that of her family and friends.

Ellis also regularly harassed the victim with racial and sexually explicit text messages while even threatening to decapitate and set her on fire. Text messages to the victim from Ellis also suggested he had traveled from Indiana to Florida to see her.
