New year, new food recall by the FDA.
Midwestern Pet Foods has issued a nationwide recall of its Sportmix dog and cat food products because it may contain a life-threatening amount of the toxin called Aflatoxin.
Aflatoxin is produced by a mold that can grow on the corn and grains that are used as ingredients in pet food.
At high levels, the toxin can make pets very ill or even death.
The FDA says Sportmix High Energy dog food is linked to "at least 28 deaths and eight illnesses in dogs."
FDA officials say if you have one of the bags listed in the recall, you should toss it out immediately and they suggest using bleach to sanitize pet bowls, scoops and storage
