LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Authorities today identified a man who was fatally shot by sheriff's deputies in the unincorporated Lennox area of Los Angeles County.
The shooting occurred about 6:50 p.m. Saturday in the 4400 block of 104th Street, according to the Los Angles County Sheriff's Department.
Moises Arreola, 32 of Inglewood, died at the scene, according to the coroner's office.
Deputies had gone to the location on a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. When they got there, they saw an armed man standing at the rear of a driveway and fired when we didn't drop his weapon, said Deputy Tracy Koerner of the Sheriff's Information Bureau.
“The suspect refused to comply with deputies' orders and attempted to raise his gun again and a second deputy-involved shooting occurred,'' Koerner said. “The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.''
Two handguns were recovered at the location, Koerner said.
Around the same time as the confrontation with Arreola, deputies were dispatched on a report of an unrelated shooting in the Inglewood area.
“Additional deputies were responding to the (initial) call and located an unresponsive gunshot victim, unrelated to the deputy-involved shooting, laying in the street on the 10300 block of Burin Avenue (in) Inglewood,'' Koerner said.
That victim was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name was withheld, pending notification of his relatives. Two handguns were also recovered at that scene, authorities said.
