Fire in Commercial Building in Chatsworth Extinguished, Firefighter Injured

CHATSWORTH (CNS) - A fire that tore through the roof of a commercial building in Chatsworth Wednesday night and injured a firefighter was extinguished in about 90 minutes.

Crews responded about 9:50 p.m. to the Arizona Pipeline Co., 20510 Sunburst St., near Oso Avenue and north of Nordhoff Street, and found heavy fire and smoke coming from the building, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Just after 10 p.m., Stewart said fire was burning through the roof of the approximately 75-foot-by-100-foot building and firefighters transitioned to a defensive operation and additional firefighters were called to the scene.

An estimated 120 firefighters assigned to the fire kept the flames from spreading to nearby buildings,. A knockdown was called at 11:27 p.m., Stewart said.

A representative from the Department of Building and Safety red-tagged the building due to the potential for collapse, Stewart said.

One firefighter was taken to a hospital with a non-life-threatening burn injury, Stewart said.

Per department protocol for a fire of this size, arson investigators were called to the scene.

Traffic in the area will be impacted for several hours.
