Hunter Biden's Business Dealings the Focus of a Federal Investigation

While President-elect Joe Biden assembles his Cabinet - and has yet to name a nominee to lead the Justice Department - the DOJ is investigating the business dealings of his son.

Questions about Hunter Biden’s financial dealings are nothing new, having been a target of President Trump’s throughout his father’s run-up to the White House.

The Associated Press reports the DOJ is taking a close look at some of his past work in China as well as other transactions. Hunter Biden issued a statement acknowledging the investigation saying “I take this matter very seriously but I am confident that a professional and objective review of these matters will demonstrate that I handled my affairs legally and appropriately, including with the benefit of professional tax advisors.”

No stranger to overseas business dealings, Hunter has been in the crosshairs of President Trump as he and his allies have accused him of profiting off his political connections. In a profile on Hunter Biden last year, the New Yorker detailed some of his affairs in China, including a trip with his father to Beijing in 2013. Unsubstantiated corruption charges have also been levied in relation to his work in Russia while his father was vice president.

It’s not the first time the President-elect's son has found himself embroiled in controversy. Hunter joined the Naval Reserve during his father’s vice presidency. He was later discharged when tests revealed he had cocaine in his system. Hunter later admitted his struggles with addiction.
