SpaceX's Starship SN8 launched this evening several miles into the Texas air and 6 minutes and 40 seconds later crashed.
And...this crash was a huge success according to Elon Musk. The goal today for Starship was to reach 8 miles for it's first high-altitude flight.
Although the cost to build a single Starship has not been disclosed, the Falcon 9 rocket is listed $54 million and estimates put the Starship at about four times as much to build. Doing a little math, and that crash just cost $216 million.
The ultimate plan for the Starship is sending humans to Mars - that is why this failed test is a huge success, it leaves them with a trove of data.
