Child Killed in Palmdale Crash; Arrest Made

PALMDALE (CNS) - A 2-year-old boy was killed in a crash at a Palmdale intersection and a suspect was arrested early today.

The crash was reported at 9:11 p.m. Sunday at 240th Street East and East Avenue P, according to the California Highway Patrol.

People were trapped inside a vehicle and a child was not breathing when firefighters and paramedics arrived, said Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Michael Pittman.

The child was airlifted to a trauma center, where he died, according to the fire department and the coroner's office. Information was not immediately available on his identity.

Two adults were able to walk from the crashed vehicle on their own power, Pittman said. The relationship between the adults and the child was not immediately disclosed.

The CHP sent out a helicopter to search for a suspect in the crash and reported locating an abandoned vehicle in the Barstow area, according to the CHP's online log. An arrest was made just after midnight, according to CHP Officer Dion Conley.

Details about the crash were not immediately available.
