SHADOW HILLS (CNS) - A large debris fire inside a recycling center in Shadow Hills was stopped by a sprinkler system inside the building before firefighters arrived on the scene, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The smoldering fire at 11121 Pendleton St. was reported at 2:50 p.m., fire department spokesman Brian Humphrey said.

Although the blaze was held in check by the sprinklers, it continues to smolder inside the large debris pile, Humphrey added.

Facility workers used their heavy equipment to help firefighters gain access to the burning material, Humphrey said. Ten firefighters were remaining on scene to make sure the fire was completely extinguished.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remained under investigation.
