SoFi Stadium, Hollywood Park Make Use Of Recycled Water For Sustainability

INGLEWOOD (CNS) - About 26 million gallons of recycled water will be delivered annually to SoFi Stadium and Hollywood Park, home of the Rams and Chargers, officials announced today.

The West Basin Municipal Water District is supplying the recycled water to the 298-acre sports and entertainment development in Inglewood, where it will be used for landscape irrigation, maintenance and aesthetic purposes, which includes a Lake Park cascading water feature and various greenscapes.

“SoFi Stadium and Hollywood Park is a great example of public-private partnership,'' West Basin Board President Gloria D. Gray said. “Together we are able to help reduce the use of our precious drinking water sources by investing in a recycled water system that is world class.''

Jason Gannon, managing director for SoFi Stadium and Hollywood Park, said a remarkable effort has gone into making use of recycled water and treating water at the development, which will be vital for its long-term sustainability.

“The lakes on the property will serve as an irrigation reservoir for the more than 20 acres of public parks and open space surrounding Lake Park, with additional sustainability achieved by blending stormwater and runoff that is captured and cleaned through the wetlands,'' Gannon said.

Lake Park, the central water feature of SoFi Stadium, consists of anupper and lower lake bridged by cascading waterfalls with a total volume of approximately 16 million gallons. The nearly six acres of lake will utilize approximately 35 acre-feet of recycled water per year, the equivalent of 11.4 million gallons each year.

The 3.1 million-square-foot SoFi Stadium is the largest stadium in the NFL, as well as the first indoor-outdoor stadium. Adjacent to the stadium and sitting under the same roof canopy is the 2.5-acre American Airlines Plaza and a 6,000-seat performance venue.

Hollywood Park, when complete, also will include more than 1.5 million square feet of retail and office space as well as 2,500 residences, a hotel and more than 20 acres of parks.
