Green Puppy Born in Italy, Appropriately Named Pistachio

In what animal experts say is an extremely rare event, a puppy has been born in Italy with green fur.

Owner Cristian Mallocci says the dog was among a litter of seven born this week in Sardinia, but was the only one with a green tint to his fur.

And of course, the little guy was immediately named Pistachio,

Animal experts say the green color happens when a light-colored puppy comes in contact with a green pigment called Biliverdin in the womb.

However, much to my disappointment, the color usually fades as the animal gets older.

Coincidentally, a lime green German Shepherd (later named Hulk) was born in North Carolina earlier this year.
