Unemployment Rate Dips In LA County, But Remains Elevated

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped to 15.1% in Los Angeles County in Sepetember, down from 16.4% in August, according to figures released today by the state Employment Development Department.

The 15.1% rate was well above the 4.3% rate from the pre-coronavirus era of September 2019.

In Orange County, where seasonally adjusted numbers were not available, the September jobless rate was 9%, down from 9.9% in August.

Statewide, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 11% in September, down from 11.2% in August, but well above the 3.9% rate from September 2019. The comparable estimates for the nation were 7.9% in September, 8.4% in August and 3.5% in September 2019.

According to the EDD, total nonfarm employment in Los Angeles County increased by 37,600 jobs between August and September to reach more than 4.1 million. Local government led the way in employment gains, thanks primarily to educational services.
