A California mail carrier is being hailed as a hero for saving a man after a gruesome chainsaw injury.
Fernando Garcia was walking his daily route when he heard a family calling for help... He turned and found a man covered in blood and holding his left arm. Turns out, the man had badly cut his arm with a chainsaw.
The quick-thinking Garcia took off his belt and used it as a tourniquet to stop the bleeding, holding it in place until medical help arrived.
“Looped it through the hole, put it around his arm , tighten it as best as I could, and just wrapped it up,” Garcia said. “And held it there as best as I could.”
And... he even finished his route after buying a new shirt and belt to replace the blood-spattered ones!
The Postal Service later thanked Garcia for his heroic rescue...
"We are very proud of letter carrier Fernando Garcia and thankful for his swift, heroic action in helping a customer in dire need of assistance," according to a Postal Service statement that was sent to CNN. "Our postal carriers truly are the eyes and ears in the community."
