Fire In Jefferson Adams Area Extinguished, One Woman Fatally Injured

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A fire inside a home in the Jefferson-Adams area left an elderly woman dead, the Los Angeles Fire Department said today.

The fire inside a two-story, 3,324 square-foot home at 2508 S. 9th Ave. was reported at 5:07 p.m. Monday, fire department spokesman Brian Humphrey said. The department dispatched 94 firefighters to the scene and extinguished the flames in about 69 minutes, he said.

An older woman was treated by paramedics at the scene. She was transported to a hospital where she later died. Her name was withheld pending family notification.

One firefighter was examined at the scene for an unspecified health problem.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation, Humphrey said.
