Home Casino Raided in North Hills, At Least 12 People Detained, Questioned

NORTH HILLS (CNS) - Police raided a suspected illegal gambling operation at a home in North Hills tonight and at least a dozen people were detained.

Officers went into the home in the 16000 block of Napa Street, near Gloria Avenue, after calls from neighbors of people coming and going from the home throughout the day and night, Sgt. Jeff Cortina of the Los Angeles Police Department told Fox 11.

“There's a pool table, a spot where they were obviously playing cards, a lot of alcohol, a lot of beer and wine, as I recall, and some minor amounts of narcotics,'' Cortina said. “It's consistent with a ... casino.''

Such homes are used as places where people can pay to gamble or engage in prostitution, he said.

“We had a couple of crimes recently and some complaints from neighbors about suspicious activity,'' Cortina said. “A lot of people won't say anything and it would be huge if they did.''

At least 12 people were detained inside the home and were being questioned by police, Fox 11 reported.
