She's an associate professor of African and Latin American Studies at George Washington University... And now she's finally announced that she has been lying about being Black.
In a piece published Thursday on Medium.com, Jessica A. Krug wrote, "To an escalating degree over my adult live, I have eschewed my lived experience as a white Jewish child in suburban Kansas City under various assumed identities within a Blackness that I had no right to claim: first North African Blackness, the US rooted Blackness, then Caribbean rooted Bronx Blackness."
She goes on to call her lie, "the very epitome of violence, of thievery and appropriation, of the myriad ways in which non-Black people continue to use and abuse Black identities and cultures."
According to George Washington's website, Krug taught courses on issues like Caribbean immigration, African history and the African Diaspora.
CNN reports the University is aware of the revelation and is now investigating.
"The wrath of all whom I’ve harmed, individually and collectively, will never erase the harm I’ve done," she wrote.
