Meet the KFI Employee Of The Month for September - Nikki Campbell

Now, we might be a little biased, but we have an amazing crew here at KFI, but most of them you never hear from because they are working behind-the-scenes.

These behind-the-scenes workers are many times the hardest working people at the radio station and their dedication is greatly appreciated by all of us. So each month, we honor one of these employees with the KFI Employee of The Month honor to recognize these amazing people and to give you a little more insight into the people that bring you the programming you love each day, and the best part is that these winners are chosen by their peers.

Each Employee of the Month will receive a few fun prizes and a certificate, official award, be featured in an on-air promo and their name will be enshrined on a perpetual plaque that will be located in our building.

So we'd like to introduce you to KFI's Employee of the Month for September, our award-winning News Editor, Nikki Campbell!

Nikki has been a part of the KFI News Team since 2006 and her dedication to her job is clear. She is so good at what she does that she received a prestigious honor in 2018 from the Society of Professional Journalists - LA Chapter...the Distinguished Journalist for Radio Award.

We asked Nikki a few questions, so you can learn a little more about her.

What made you decide on a career in radio?

"I had always planned to be a newspaper reporter, and I was, for five years - but I took a radio workshop in grad school and really enjoyed it."

What do you like most about your job?

"Writing every day and the chance to be creative."

Any pet peeves?

"When people don't know the difference between its and it's."

Favorite hobbies?

"Listening to new wave, playing Scrabble, double dutching, riding my bicycle, reading, going to the movies. And one more hobby....writing letters, I LOVE writing letters! I'm old school! That hobby is coming in especially handy in this pandemic."

Favorite food & drink?

"Beef stroganoff and Coca-Cola!"

What does the perfect day off for you consist of? (I apologize Nikki for ending this sentence in a preposition!)

"Sleeping in, getting a massage, eating a delicious sandwich and having scintillating conversation with someone special."

What is one thing people don't know about you?

"I've walked up all the steps of the Eiffel Tower."

Here's what Nikki's co-workers had to say about her:

"Nikki has volunteered to work during her days off to make sure we have sufficient team coverage during the big stories. Her title may be editor, but she easily and seamlessly takes on the role of newsroom manager when big decisions have to be made."
"Nikki has sound news judgement, a strong work ethic and is a team player."
"She is awesome!"
"She kicks ass and has no air conditioning at home."
"Not only is she an amazing writer, she works her ass off every single day."
"She's someone I can count on."
"Holding down the newsroom through the shutdowns and always came in when everyone else is working at home."
"She is here every day essentially running the news department. She deserves the recognition!"
"She works hard. Awesome person."
"Holds the KFI Newsroom together."

It's clear that without Nikki, we couldn't do what we do each day. Congratulations Nikki!
