Hurricane Laura Destroys One of US's Few Remaining Confederate Statues

One of the last remaining Confederate statues in the United States has been toppled by Hurricane Laura.

The statue, which recognized local veterans who fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War, had been displayed on the Calcasieu Parish Courthouse lawn since 1915.

The storm tore the statue from its base in Lake Charles, only weeks after a county commission voted to leave it standing.
