Man Hit by Gunfire as Deputies Responded to Commerce Hit-and-Run

COMMERCE (CNS) - A man is recovering today after being hit by gunfire as Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies approached four suspects in Commerce.

It is being investigated as a deputy involved shooting, but the Sheriff's Department refused to say whether one or more deputies discharged their weapons.

Deputies from the East Los Angeles Sheriff's Station were called to investigate the hit-and-run of a parked vehicle in the 1400 block of South McDonnell Avenue at 9:50 p.m. Saturday.

When they arrived, they saw three men and a woman standing near a vehicle that had been involved in the collision, according to Maria Lucero with the LA County Sheriff's Information Bureau. It was unclear whether the vehicle was the suspect's or belonged to the victim of the hit and run.

“As the deputies approached, one of the suspects brandished a firearm at which time a deputy involved shooting occurred,” Lucero said. “One male Hispanic adult was struck by gunfire and was transported to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition.”

No deputies were injured.

The man with the gun fled and has not yet been located.

The third man, and the woman, were detained at the scene.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500 or "Crime Stoppers" at 800-222-TIPS (8477).
