Castulo de la Rucha of AltaMed | CEOs You Should Know

Today's guest on CEO's You Should Know is Castulo De La Rocha, the leader of AltaMed, a private non-profit federally qualified community health center that provides care for up to 400,000 low-income patients between Los Angeles and Orange County.

Castulo said COVID-19 has hit his company hard, but they were able to quickly pivot to telemedicine visits for patients to survive. AltaMed went from zero telemedicine appointments in March to more than 50% of patients using telemedicine now. They've also tested close to 60,000 people for coronavirus since the end of May.

Castulo says he began with a sense of social justice and wanted to create a health institution where Latinos would be treated equally. He says as time passed, his passion expanded into becoming a good businessman, understanding the rules of business and how to develop good, strategic partnerships within the community.

Castulo says he is not only fighting to keep his company open and healthy, but also is fighting for his patients -- so that when there is a COVID vaccine available, they can get it.
