Brush Fire Burns in Hollywood Hills; No Homes Threatened

HOLLYWOOD (CNS) - Firefighters today were working to extinguish a fire in about three acres of brush in the Hollywood Hills, but  crews extinguished the blaze before any homes were damaged.

The fire was reported about noon near the 2500 block of North Laurel Canyon Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Air and ground crews were sent to the scene.

Although a number of homes are in the area, none were threatened by the fire, which burned medium brush “in challenging terrain'' amid light winds, Nicholas Prange of the LAFD said in a statement.

“Firefighters have anchored the heel -- downhill/downwind back side -- of the fire, and established hose lines up the flanks, providing an attack on the fire from the rear and sides,'' Prange said.

Eighty firefighters extinguished the fire by about 2:20 p.m., and no injuries were reported.

“An aggressive ground and air attack by firefighters skillfully protected nearby homes and kept the fire to a relatively small footprint,'' Prange said. “Brush clearance has provided defensible space for firefighters to work in and effectively protect the property.''

Electrical service was “out temporarily'' in the Laurel Canyon area due to the fire.
