As calls for nationwide police reform sweep across the country, Mayor Eric Garcetti announced the creation of a new Los Angeles Police Department bureau focused on community safety.
The Community Safety Partnership bureau will be an expansion of an existing program that will work to improve the relationships between the department and local neighborhoods.
The current Community Safety Partnership program is a partnership between the LAPD and the city's housing authority that began in 2011.
That program was designed to have officers help address quality-of-life issues and develop programs to reduce violent crime.
