Suspect Arrested in Shooting Death of Girl at Hollywood Street Race

A 17-year-old girl was shot to death following a confrontation between street racers at Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Ave, according to multiple reports.

The victim's name has not yet been released, but relatives identified her as Alejandra "Ale" Estrada, according to CBS 2.

The suspect in the shooting was identified as Ramon Roque Monreal, 33, of El Paso, Texas.

Video of the altercation and shooting was posted to Instagram, that showed the suspect arguing with another man. Monreal can be seen withdrawing a pistol from his waistband when another bystander spots the gun and punches Monreal in the face.

As Monreal falls to the ground, he begins firing randomly into the crowd, with at least one bullet hitting Estrada.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police took Monreal into custody at around 3:45 a.m. in the area of 223rd and Figueroa streets. He was still in possession of a firearm, according to the LAPD. Sheriff's deputies notified LAPD homicide detectives, who later arrested him on suspicion of murder.

Bail was set for Monreal at $3 million dollars, jail records show. Detectives are expected to present their case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office on Tuesday.
