Fire Burning in Angeles National Forest; Hikers Sheltering in Place

ARCADIA (CNS) - Hikers were told to shelter in place today while crews battled a seven-acre fire in the Chantry Flat area of the Angeles National Forest.

The blaze broke out for unknown reasons early this afternoon in the area of Hermit Falls, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

One firefighter was injured by a rock that hit his shoulder and was taken to a hospital for treatment, according to a Twitter posting on the Angeles National Forest page.

No structures were threatened, and by 4 p.m. the fire was 50% contained at seven acres, the Arcadia Fire Department and the Angeles National Forest reported.

“Many hikers are in the area and are sheltering in place until assisted evacuation occurs,'' according to a U.S. Forest Service statement.
