15 Jockeys at Del Mar Racetrack Test Positive for COVID-19

California's Del Mar racetrack canceled all of of this weekend's upcoming races after 15 jockeys, and seven workers, tested positive for COVID-19.

All of Del Mar's jockeys and non-riding personnel were tested for the coronavirus after riders Flavian Pratt and Victor Espinoza both received positive test results. And the San Diego Union Tribune reports that 14 of the 15 infected Del Mar jockeys took part in July 4th's horse races in Los Alamitos.

However, Del Mar's COO said that all of those who tested positive are asymptomatic. As long as they stay that way, the infected jockeys may be able to race again in ten 10 days.

“We intend to do our best to make up for the races that were lost from this weekend,” said Del Mar President Josh Rubinstein. “If that means extra race days, or an extra race here or there on Fridays or Sundays when we’re running nine or 10, we’re going to do that.”
