GLENDALE (CNS) - Cooling stations will be available in Glendale starting tomorrow and through Monday to help residents keep cool during the heat wave.
Pacific Community Center, at 501 S. Pacific Ave., will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and Griffith Manor Park, at 1551 Flower St., will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, according to Glendale Eliza Papazian.
Social-distancing protocols will be observed in the facilities and everyone will be required to wear a face covering at all times, Papazian said.
Participants will also have their temperatures checked before entering the facilities.
Glendale city officials encourage everyone to take precautions during the next three days, when temperatures are expected to reach the mid-90s.
People are advised to:
-- Avoid the sun from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.;
-- Wear sun screen with an SPF of at least 15;
-- Stay in the shade when outdoors;
-- Cover skin with hats and lightweight clothing;
-- Reduce physical activity;
-- Avoid hot and heavy meals;
-- Use air-conditioning or take a cool shower twice a day if no air condition is available;
-- Drink fluids, and avoid alcohol and caffeine;
-- Make sure pets get plenty of water and shade.
Anyone experiencing symptoms of dehydration or heat cramps -- dizziness, fatigue, faintness, headaches, rapid heartbeat, muscle cramps or increased thirst -- was encouraged to seek medical attention or call 911.
