LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose today for the 23rd time in 25 days, increasing nine-tenths of a cent to $3.015.
The average price rose 14 consecutive days, dropped one-tenth of a cent June 2, increased the next five days, decreased one-tenth of a cent on Monday and resumed increasing Tuesday. It has risen 14 cents over the past 25 days, including six-tenths of a cent on Thursday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
The average price is 4.6 cents more than a week ago and 15.6 cents higher than a month ago but 82.6 cents less than one year ago. It has decreased 60 cents since the start of the year.
The Orange County average price rose today for the 36th time in 38 days, increasing 1.1 cents to $2.984. It has risen 21.4 cents over the past 38 days, including four-tenths of a cent on Thursday.
The Orange County average price is 5 cents more than one week ago and 17.5 cents higher than one month ago but 81.9 cents less than one year ago. It has dropped 56.1 cents since the start of the year.
The Orange County average price rose for 20 consecutive days, was unchanged May 26, rose each of the next five days, was unchanged June 1 and resumed rising the next day.
“In addition to increased demand, we are hearing reports that supply could be affected by a breakdown at the Marathon Wilmington refinery on Tuesday, which pushed up wholesale prices'' Wednesday, said Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager.
