A rebuffed man, who police say planned to target cheerleaders with a bomb, ended up blowing off one of his own hands and some fingers off the other.

23-year-old Cole Carini also had shrapnel wounds to his neck and throat when he sought treatment at a Richlands, Virginia clinic Wednesday - at first saying it was the result of a horrific lawn mower accident.

But authorities found his lawn overgrown and evidence of an explosion, explosive material, rusty nails, pipes and even flesh,The New York Post reports.

They also found a partially burned letter referencing Elliot Rodger, who killed himself and six others outside of a Santa Barbara, California sorority in 2014. “I will not be afraid of the consequences no matter what I will be heroic I will make a statement like Elliott Rodgers [sic],” he allegedly wrote. Rogers had become a figure head for the "involuntarily celibate" - men take revenge because their advances are turned down.

Carini was charged with making false statements to law enforcement. Online court records show he is being held in custody pending appointment of an attorney.
