Airport Officials Say Flights Between Munich and LAX Have Resumed

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Los Angeles International Airport today announced nonstop flights have resumed between it and Germany's Munich Airport on Lufthansa Airlines.

“We are pleased to welcome back Lufthansa and its nonstop service to the Bavarian capital of Munich, which creates a critical bridge between our two global cities as the world slowly recovers from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic,'' said Justin Erbacci, interim CEO of Los Angeles World Airports.

“This reestablished service comes with a substantial focus on the health and safety of travelers at LAX, onboard the aircraft and at Munich Airport.''

Lufthansa ceased operating the LAX-Munich flight on March 13 due to the decline in global demand for air travel. The resumed service will now operate three times per week and will for the first time use an Airbus A350-900 for the long-haul service, LAWA officials said.

LAWA stated both airports and Luthansa have implemented numerous measures to ensure that travel on the ground and in the air meet an increased level of hygiene and safety standards.

Passengers and employees are required to wear a facial covering as soon as they enter the terminal buildings at both LAX and MUC.

LAX signage directs passengers to practice physical distancing, including inside elevators and at security checkpoints and the airport is deep-cleaning high-touch surfaces every hour using bacteria- and virus-killing products. It utilizes UV sterilization within its terminal air filters.

During boarding, Lufthansa passengers are divided into zones to avoid large queues. All Lufthansa passengers receive a disinfecting wipe before boarding the aircraft. The airline's passengers are also required to wear their facial coverings onboard the aircraft.

All Lufthansa aircraft cabins are disinfected after each landing.

Flights from LAX to MUC will be scheduled for Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and flights from MUC to LAX will be on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

They will depart at 1:30 p.m. and arrive at MUC at 9:45 a.m.

Flights will depart MUC at 12:05 a.m. and arrive at LAX at 3:05 p.m.
