A 5.5-magnitude earthquake rocked the Searles Valley area in San Bernardino County Wednesday, the US Geological Survey said Wednesday evening.
The quake was initially measured as a 5.1-magnitude quake, but was later upgraded. It struck at around 6:32 about 26 miles away from California City, at a depth of 4.3 miles. The same area was rocked last year by a sizeable series of earthquakes that caused up to $5 billion in damage to the Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake.
The quake was followed by another 2.8-magnitude aftershock, according to data from the U.S.G.S.
There were no immediate reports of damage.
