Details on the funeral arrangement for George Floyd were released today.
Organizers say a memorial service is being planned in Minneapolis this Thursday, June 4th, from 1 to 3 p.m. (10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. PST). A second memorial where Floyd was born, will be held in North Carolina on Saturday, June 6th, from 1 to 3 p.m. EST (8:00 a.m. to 10 a.m. PST).
Floyd will be buried in Houston in a private burial service on Tuesday.
A public viewing is scheduled for Monday, June 8th from noon to 6 p.m local time.
Organizers urged anyone who wants to attend the memorials to practice strict social distancing practices amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
"Due to concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing is a major focus and those that attend either service are requested to wear masks and gloves for the safety of all," the memorial planning center said.
Floyd died last week after a former Minneapolis police officer kneeled on his neck while two other officers were restraining him. Video of the incident showed a fourth officer who stood by as it happened. All four officers have been fired by the Minneapolis Police Department,, while the officer who kneeled on Floyd's neck, Derek Chauvin, has been charged in his death.
According to CNN, boxing champion Floyd Mayweather has offered to pay for George Floyd's funeral with Leonard Ellerbe, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions confirming the boxer's involvement in a statement to ESPN.
"He'll probably get mad at me for saying that, but yes, (Mayweather) is definitely paying for the funeral," Ellerbe said.
