Apple Warns Looters: The iPhones You Stole Are Being Tracked

Apple has a warning for looters who ransacked its stores... Those stolen iPhones are being tracked.

Photos have surfaced on social media of a stolen iPhone displaying the message "Please return to Apple Walnut Street. This device has been disabled and is being tracked. Local authorities will be alerted." According to the New York Post, a source close to the company says that these tracking messages have been in place for awhile now.

Apple Stores in multiple cities including Philly, L.A., New York, San Francisco, and Washington D.C. have been broken into during the protests, which have lasted about a week now after the police killing of George Floyd. In a memo to Apple employees, Apple chief Tim Cook called the killing "senseless."

“I have heard from so many of you that you feel afraid — afraid in your communities, afraid in your daily lives, and, most cruelly of all, afraid in your own skin,” Cook said in the note. “To our colleagues in the Black community — we see you. You matter, your lives matter, and you are valued here at Apple.”
