LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Temperatures will decline slightly in L.A. County today but remain in the low 100s in the Antelope Valley as the Southland's heat wave enters its fourth day.
An excessive heat warning remains in effect until 7 tonight in the Antelope Valley, where temperatures are again forecast to be around 20 degrees higher than normal.
Today's conditions will be much as they've been this week, with the National Weather Service again forecasting highs of 75-99 along the coast, 90-100 in most valley areas, 95-105 in the Antelope Valley, and 80-100 in the mountains and foothills.
“Dangerously hot conditions with temperatures of 100 to 105 degrees is expected,'' the NWS again warned today in discussing the Antelope valley. “Extreme heat will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.''
The weather service urged residents to “drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
“Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heatstroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 911.''
The NWS forecast a combination of sunny and cloudy skies in L.A. County today and highs of 71 degrees at LAX; 73 degrees in Avalon; 75 in Long Beach; 77 on Mount Wilson; 79 in Downtown L.A.; 83 in San Gabriel; 84 in Burbank; 85 in Pasadena; 89 in Woodland Hills; 90 in Saugus; 100 in Palmdale; and 101 in Lancaster. Temperatures will continue to decline Friday, going down to the low 90s in the Antelope Valley, but by Wednesday will be back up to today's levels.
Sunny skies were forecast for in inland Orange County, with partly cloudy conditions along the coast, along with highs of 70 in Laguna Beach; 71 in Newport Beach and San Clemente; 78 on Santiago Peak and Ortega Highway at 2,600 feet; 79 at Fremont Canyon; 80 in Fullerton; 81 in Irvine and Mission Viejo; 82 in Yorba Linda and Anaheim; and 84 at Trabuco Canyon. By Wednesday, after a dip of a few degrees, Orange County temperatures will be where they are today.
