All Rob Newton wanted to do was get to work on time for his shift at KFI.
While KFI's very own anchor/reporter Rob Newton was on his way into to the station Thursday evening, he found himself suddenly sitting in traffic after some 50 vehicles took over all lanes on the Santa Ana (5) Freeway in Norwalk. Dramatic video taken by Rob shows vehicles performing stunts, including doughnuts and setting off fireworks.
The vehicles took over the 5 Freeway just before 10 p.m. Thursday night. The video shows people walking around the stopped freeway, filming the chaos while fireworks exploded under a freeway overpass.
By the time police arrived, all of the suspects involved in the takeover were gone. A multi-agency task force that includes personnel from the CHP, the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, has been setup to investigat the incident. California Highway Patrol Officer Marcos Iniguez of the Santa Fe Springs Area office said.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have information on the freeway 'takeover' to contact the CHP Santa Fe Springs area office at 562-868-0503, or email the information to him at Marcos.Iniguez@chp.ca.gov.
