DIAMOND BAR (CNS) - The sheriff's department will deploy extra units to Diamond Bar on Friday and Lynwood on Saturday looking for violations made by drivers and motorcyclists that increase the risk of crashes.
Extra deputies will be on patrol Friday in Diamond Bar from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday in Lynwood from 6 a.m.-2 p.m., according to Sgt. Robert L. Hill.
California has nearly 900,000 registered motorcycles and their riders are 28 times more likely to die in a traffic collision than people inside vehicles, Hill said.
Hill reminded motorists to always check twice for motorcycles in their mirrors and blind spots, use their signals when changing lanes, keep a safe distance from motorcycles in front of them, and allow space before turning at an intersection.
Motorcyclists were reminded to always wear a Department of Transportation-compliant helmet and other protective gear, consider wearing reflective tape on their clothing, keep lights on at all times, signal in advance before changing lanes and avoid lane splitting at high speeds or between large vehicles.
Extra deputies will also be deployed to Malibu on May 29 from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. to look for violations from drivers and motorcyclists that increase the risk of crashes.
